WHEELER MEMORIAL CHAPEL RECEIVES
GRANT FOR NEW ROOF
Success continues in early stages of Capital Drive Campaign

-
MERRIMACK, NH-The Trustees of the Wheeler Memorial Chapel announced they have
received a $5,000 grant from the Henry Laird Smith Foundation of Nashville, TN
towards a new roof on the building. According to Dave Rogers, one of the
Trustees, the new roof is projected to cost just under $30,000. "With this grant
we now have raised over one third of what we need," Rogers said.
According to Rogers the roof has been deteriorating for some time, but the
severe rains this fall accelerated the problems to the point where it now must
be replaced immediately. The Trustees
began raising money in September and are hoping to have enough funds to do the
work shortly after the holidays. Rogers explained the goal is to have the new
roof on before any spring rains hit. "We don't want any further damage that
would interfere with the community activities and services that operate out of
the Chapel," said Rogers.
The Chapel building is a 116-year-old wooden building in the style of a
traditional New England church. Located at 590 Daniel Webster Highway, Route 3,
in Merrimack, NH, it is used a number of private and public organizations as a
community meeting place. It is nondenominational and non-sectarian facility for
the use of the community. The Chapel is owned and operated by the Wheeler
Memorial Chapel Trust, established by John Wheeler in 1889. The Trust is a
nonprofit 501 (c)3 organization.
